Your Sexual Health – Do You Know How Sexual Abstinence Harms Your Health and Happiness?

Doctors tell us that sexual abstinence can harm the physical and psychic health of men and women. Find out how you can reverse the harmful side effects of abstinence with or without a sexual partner.

How can sexual abstinence harm your health?

You may be grieving the loss of your romantic partner or a loss of sexual intimacy in a relationship, and the process of grieving takes a huge toll on your health. When your thoughts turn to loss and dis-ease, you lose the health benefits of feeling love and gratitude — our two healing emotions.

You may feel content on your own without a sexual partner, yet the lack of sexual activity takes its health toll.

Men and women who abstain from sex for long periods can develop problems with sexual function.

Men may experience issues concerning erection and ejaculation. Testosterone levels may fall and reduce desire.

Women may suffer a loss of arousal, vaginal lubrication and an inability to climax. Estrogen levels may fall and bad cholesterol may rise.

Fortunately, these conditions may reverse and return to normal after you resume sexual activity.

Men and women who abstain from sex miss out on these health benefits of sexual activity:

*ease in handling stress
*speedy cell repair and regeneration
*increased intimacy hormones that elevate mood
*greater blood flow to brain that improves memory
*stronger immune system and less fatigue or illness
*younger skin and less body fat from human growth hormone produced during sex
*extended longevity

If you don’t have a sexual partner, is there another way to gain these health benefits?

Researchers report that our sexual health must be maintained by a regular and active sex life.

If you don’t have a sexual partner, there are several ways to avoid or reverse the side effects of sexual abstinence:

* Substitute sex with masturbation

Men often masturbate, even when their sex life is in order.
Many women do not masturbate, even when deprived of sex.
Some religions view it as a sin.
Sexual researchers report that masturbation is one way to maintain sexual and psychic health. Here is another:

* Use sex toys

They are used by adults who cannot make love with a beloved partner, yet they don’t want to sleep around.
There are vibrators, realistic dolls, dildos that are safe tools for sexual release.
Unlike casual sex with a partner, the sex toys cannot expose you to STDs.
They stimulate the health benefits of an active sex life.

* Develop sexual intimacy in a relationship

Improve your existing relationship so that you revive the spark of sexual fire for an active, healthy sex life.
Find a compatible match for a loving, passionate relationship through matchmaking services or online dating sites.
Health studies confirm that you will age better and live a happier, healthier life when you enjoy an active sex life.

Can you tell a culture by its cover?

Lori Devoti Icon

Have you all seen this cover?
Liar by Justine Larbalestier

It is causing quite a stir on the Internet. Why you might ask. It is, in my opinion, a fabulous eye-catching cover that as a girl I would totally gravitate toward. But there is one teeny problem. The protagonist is black. And from what I have heard, she doesn’t have long straight hair.

But marketing chose this cover, apparently after a lot of going back and forth with the author. Justine Larbalestier comments on all of this in depth on her blog.

Now my question is, what does all this say about us? Where is the real problem? Or is there a problem?

I think there is, but I don’t know that it is with the marketing department. The marketing department wants to sell books. I don’t think they would purposely put a cover on a book they didn’t think would do that. And, the disconnect aside, the cover is appealing. So, is it true? If a black girl who fit the description of Justine’s character was on the cover, would fewer copies of the book sell?

I suspect it is true. I hate that I suspect that, but I do and I’m really hoping some of you can tell me it isn’t.

But maybe for it to not be true more covers with characters who aren’t white need to be on covers. Maybe it’s a chicken and egg thing.

And assuming it is true…why is it? What does the (assumed) fact that covers with black characters don’t sell as well mean? Are we racist readers? Or is it just that white readers are so shallow we can’t imagine bonding with a character who doesn’t look like us? Do we somewhere deep inside think the color of our skin truly makes us so different we won’t enjoy the book…or maybe that it isn’t “written for us?” ‘Cause I assure you if people of color felt that way, they would have a mighty short TBR stack.

So, since we don’t run the world and can’t jump in and design covers, how can we change it?

I think there’s only one way…by proving marketing wrong…by proving me wrong…by buying every book with a black character on the COVER, not just in the text, that we can.

Because, I don’t know about you, but this is one time I really want to be wrong.

Romantic Movie Review – Make A Date For The Ugly Truth?

I wanted to like The Ugly Truth, a film comedy about romance in a local TV station, starring Katherine Heigl as a single Producer who gets dating advice from a loutish relationship reporter played by Gerard Butler. As a former Chicago TV producer and a single-again woman who writes about dating and relationships, I wanted to gain some cinematic insights into the professional and personal challenges we face in local television production and in today’s dating world.

Unfortunately, the three women screenwriters don’t seem to know or care how real men and women communicate about love and relationships at work or in their dating life. Their screenplay portrays charmless caricatures of TV producers, on-camera talent and single men and women. The film’s director, Robert Luketic, had shown his gift for romantic comedy while at the helm of Legally Blonde. In The Ugly Truth, Luketic shunned soul and subtlety in his direction of this talented cast of actors, who mugged and overacted throughout the entire film.

One sophomoric sequence made the audience groan or laugh, when a young boy unwittingly found and activated the remote for vibrating panties worn by Katherine Heigl as Producer Abby Richter during dinner with TV execs. Her writing pleasure livened up the dinner conversation with the “suits”, while it also made the audience further lose respect for the roguish reporter who could’ve grabbed the remote and preserved his producer’s dignity. Soulful motivation and behavior is sorely lacking in the entire collection of film characters.

Want to know the dating advice that relationship reporter (Gerard Butler) gives his producer (Katherine Heigl) in a private tutorial?

Women should never criticize or try to control men.
Women should always laugh at a man’s jokes even if they’re not funny.
Women should not dress for comfort and efficiency; they should only wear push-up bras and seductive outfits on a date.
Women should never talk about their problems on dates, since that interferes with a man’s fantasies about sex.
Women should pretend to be the woman a man wants her to be in order to fool him into a relationship.

If you like those dating strategies, you won’t like my articles, podcast show or my novel with songs about the adventures in dating after divorce. I’ve gone on a couple hundred blind dates after my long marriage ended in divorce, and I’ve never met a single adult male with the shameless seduction techniques and attitudes presented in this film. This cinematic search for love isn’t based on reality as I’ve experienced it, and it fails to elevate the raunchy battle of the sexes into a witty farce.

Since like attracts like, the film goers who like The Ugly Truth may be attracted to childish fantasies of the way men and women interact in their search for a love match and in their professional and personal relationships. If you’re seeking a smart, sexy comedy, don’t make a date to see this film. What a waste of a gorgeous, gifted group of actors. Because of their valiant efforts to transcend silly stereotypes set forth in the script, I’ve awarded 2 out of 5 hot chili peppers to The Ugly Truth. This Columbia Pictures Release earned an MPAA rating of “R” for sexual content.

If you’re single and seeking your special love match, I invite you to meet savvy singles in video chats, book discussions and travel vacations in the Singles Club of Tribe Of Blondes. Emo vs Gay

Ever wonder why emo is mistakenly taken as being gay? Well in my own opinion, it’s because emo boys wear make-up which is even darker and more noticeable than those ordinary girls. What with those thick eyeliners, weird eye shadows applied in a weird way and elaborate mascara on their lashes paired with a hairstyle which is ornately sported after hours of styling (I think) – who would not doubt his gender? haha!

Hanging with Fam

It’s been and interesting summer. I’ve been hanging with the fam. My sister and nephew are here for their yearly visit. Just chilling and reconnecting. I love when they come for their visit. My sis and I laugh and have lots of fun. My nephew looks at us like we are nuts but he also has a wicked sense of humor.

My cousin and her fam who live close to me have come by to also chat and so on. My other sister who also lives close came by too. One day they all showed up and my house was overrun with people. Imagine 8 kids and 6 adults. Whew it was a fun and crazy day. I love hanging with the fam. Nice talking about old times, current events and politics. We had some rousing discussions. LOL.

Hanging with fam is one of my favorite summer things. What are some of your fav summer things?

Beach reads, baby

Jennifer Estep Icon

We’re in the midst of summer, which means hot days, steamy nights, and one of my absolute favorite things—beach reads.

Now, I won’t be lucky enough to actually get to a beach this year, much less lounge by the ocean and listen to the soothing sounds of the waves rolling in. But I can still lose myself in the pages of a good book, even if the location is only the brown plaid expanse of my not-quite-tropical couch. If you squint real hard, my beige carpet sort of looks like sand. Okay, maybe not.

I don’t know where the term came from, but I think of beach reads as books that are light, frothy, and just plain fun. Something that fits in with the slow flow of the days. After all, if you’re actually at the beach, there’s also lazy lounging by the ocean to be done and perhaps a fruity boat drink or two in the offing. A girl has to have her priorities in order.

I love reading all year long, of course, but there’s just something about summer that appeals to me. It’s the perfect time to just read whatever you want to, instead of all those boring office reports. To treat yourself to that one special book you’ve been looking forward to for a while now. To re-read your favorite author’s series. Or to pick up something on a whim at the bookstore because it looks good. Or maybe even because there’s an actual beach on the book cover. Whatever floats your boat.

Me? I’ve been whittling down my TBR pile this summer, reading everyone from Jim Butcher to Kresley Cole to Jeaniene Frost to Eric Van Lustbader. Now, I don’t know if wizards, Valkyries, vampires, and a superspy named Jason Bourne exactly qualify as beach reads or not.

But I’ve been having a blast with them—even if I’m stuck on the couch at home. Hey, at least there’s air conditioning. I’d take that over sand any day.

What about you? Which so-called beach reads are you looking forward to? What great books have you already discovered this year? Share in the comments.

Emo Music…

Emo broke into mainstream culture in the early 2000s with the platinum-selling success of Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional and the emergence of the more aggressive subgenre “screamo”. In recent years the term “emo” has been applied by critics and journalists to a variety of artists, including multiplatinum acts such as Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance and disparate groups such as Coheed and Cambria and Panic at the Disco.

Online Dating Guide – Do You Know How To Write A Romantic Love Letter To Your Virtual Date?

Couples have met and fallen in love by writing love letters throughout history, and this custom continues in today’s internet dating sites. If you’re seeking your great love online, learn how to write love letters that honestly win the heart of your virtual date as a prelude to meeting face to face.

How can you write a love letter to a virtual date that you haven’t even met?

You have met through virtual correspondence.

If you’ve joined an internet dating site, you’ve already created your dating profile and searched through many profiles and sorted through many email inquiries and introductions to identify your intriguing matches.

When you are drawn to a person’s photo and their written self portrait speaks to you, then you begin to communicate more personally and privately via email and video chats.

Throughout your casual conversations and virtual correspondence, you develop a good sense of a person’s life experience, core values and relationship goals. Genuine feelings also grow between you as you get to know and like each other.

So you experience a meeting of your minds and your heart in your virtual correspondence before you feel inspired to write a love letter and act on those feelings.

What are the secrets of romantic love letter?

A romantic love letter expresses your genuine feelings for your virtual date. You may start the note with a verse from your favorite love song, but there should be no false notes in your love letter. No false flattery. No exaggeration of your accomplishments, your emotional connection or your relationship goals.

Speaking your truth gives your virtual date no reason to be disappointed when you eventually meet because you have painted an authentic self portrait in every communication.

If this is your first attempt at writing a love letter, here are some guiding tips:

Write from your heart and your authentic truth and choose words that touch their heart.
Tell them what they did or said to open your heart and inspire your romantic feelings.
Add a humorous memory or moment that will make them smile.
Thank them for inspiring positive feelings and bringing out the best in you.
Explain why they matter to you — how your life has changed and your dreams may be fulfilled because of them.
Express your desire to meet in person and discover deeper feelings that will arise.

When your love letters express your heart-felt and genuine truths, you begin to create an authentic emotional bond with your virtual date. This adds and excitement and ease to meeting in person and seeing how you might nurture the relationship that began on your dating site.
